Chaos Incoming: the 2024 Election is here.
It’s hard to be a human right now. For most folks, merely existing is stressful. For some, it’s downright traumatizing. This frustration and pain you feel? I promise you that it’s valid. I see you, I hear you, and I validate you. I empathize with you - as a Southern, abortion-providing bisexual disaster of a Reform Jew, my reality has not been an easy one recently. You may not be able to relate to my exact circumstances nor I to yours, but that’s ok - both your pain and mine can both be valid, and we can hold that space together.
Like most people, I have been experiencing increasing amounts of anxiety and dread as Election Day draws near. At the risk of sounding like a fool - this election really is the biggest of our lifetime so far. There are so many things at stake in this election, from abortion access to public education, gun rights to world peace. It also comes at a time where misinformation is at an all-time high and emotions are rampant. The world is on fire - what the hell are we supposed to do?
The immediate answer I have for you is this - we’re supposed to survive.
At this moment, voting is a part of that survival. A Trump presidency will spell the end of democracy in America. Full stop. It may not impact you at first - especially if you’re a straight, white man - but it will come back and haunt y’all eventually, too. Regardless of your opinion on Harris’s current work in the Biden administration, it should be clear that an administration under her would be much easier to work towards change under.
Still have questions or concerns about your vote? Let’s talk about it! Send us a message - we’re here for you. In the meantime, I leave y’all with this poem and hopes for a better tomorrow.
With love and solidarity,
Calla
Voting as Fire Extinguisher
When the haunted house catches fire:
a moment of indecision.
The house was, after all, built on bones,
and blood, and bad intentions.
Everyone who enters the house feels
the overwhelming dread, the evil
that perhaps only fire can purge.
It’s tempting just to let it burn.
And then I remember:
there are children inside.
