North Carolina has a constitutional amendment on the ballot this year, known as the “citizens only” amendment. We are strongly against this amendment because it’s based on the racist, xenophobic lie that non-citizens are somehow participating in elections. This amendment was not proposed to ensure free and fair elections - if that was the intent, this amendment would be about prohibiting gerrymandering and voter suppression. This amendment could lay the legal groundwork to invalidate election results because “there’s no way this candidate could lose!” It will only cause further division in our communities by creating confusion and promoting hate. We encourage everyone to vote AGAINST this constitutional amendment.
